the majority of the film takes place in Brainerd, Minnesota (where Marge is a cop, and where the murders take place) and the 'twin cities' (Minneapolis and St. Paul) where Jerry Lundergard works and lives. only the films opening scene takes place in Fargo, where Jerry and the kidnappers meet to make the deal.
