In his prime, Randall Cuningham was absolutely amazing and could do it all -- throw, run, catch and even punt, better than anyone else on his team.

Probably someone like Chuck Bednarik (sp?). Some young'n will probably say someone like McNabb or maybe even a little older like Ron Jaworski, but how can it not be Chuck B? I'm an Eagle hater and I have to recognize his greatness anyway. Isn't he the guy that almost killed Frank Gifford on the field with a tackle? Here's a blurb from Gifford's Wikipedia entry:

"He lost 18 months in the prime of his career when he was the victim of one of the most brutal, though completely legal, hits in NFL history. During a 1960 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was cleanly blindsided by Chuck Bednarik on a pass play, suffering a severe head injury that led him to retire from football."

The Minister of Defense... Reggie. Reggie. Reggie White!

"White played college football at the University of Tennessee, where he set school records for most sacks in a career, season and game, records he still holds.

After college, White signed with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL, with whom he played for two seasons, while racking up 23.5 sacks, 192 tackles and seven forced fumbles in 36 starts.

After the USFL folded, White moved to the NFL and went to the Philadelphia Eagles because they held his NFL rights. He played with the Eagles for eight seasons, picking up 124 sacks to become the Eagles' all-time sack leader. He also set a then Eagles regular-season record with 21 sacks in 1987. He also became the only player to ever accumulate 20 or more sacks in just 12 games. He also set an NFL regular-season record that season by averaging the most sacks per game, with an amazing 1.75 sacks per game. Over the course of his tenure with the Eagles Reggie actually accumulated more sacks than the number of games that he played."

RIP REGGIE

Here's a dark-horse candidate: Chuck Bednarik.

See the link below for a complete profile of Mr. Bednarik. In sum he was one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history and was one of the last "two-way men" If he had played a decade or so later he would be a household name today.

Among recent players how can everyone overlook Donovan McNabb. His stats speak for themselves and he lead the Eagles to 4 straight NFC title games and 1 Super Bowl
