For the past two months I've been using a digital ovulation predictor kit. It comes up with a smiley face when you're ovulating. My cycle is 31 days so I've been testing from day 14 to day 20 like the instructions say but so far there has been no smiley face. I'm doing the test once a day first thing on a morning.
I have regular periods but even so do you think I might not be ovulating? Or is it possible that I might be ovulating and the tests just don't pick it up? I'm worried I might have fertility problems so is it worth seeing a doctor? There's no point me trying to have sex on days 10 to 18 if the tests are showing I'm not ovulating is there?

With a 31 day cycle you should expect to ovulate between days 16-21 so it sounds like you are testing on the correct days. However, LH, the hormone the tests look for, isn't typically excreeted in high amounts in first morning urine. You should be testing between 10am-6pm after holding your urine for 4 hours with limited or no fluids during that time. The odds are that you are ovulating since your cycles are regular. You should try charting your basal body temps with the opk's, it will tell you for sure if you are O'ing!

On a 31-day cycle you would ovulate around Day 18. Do me a favor... add a couple of days to the end on your next cycle. Try testing passed Day 18 (Day 19 and 20) and see if that makes a difference. You might be cutting it off right at the mark. If you still come up zero, try another brand and/or another method. Do you track cervical mucous changes? I find this method pretty helpful. There's lots of stuff on the Internet about it if you need more info.

It's possible you don't ovulate, but after only 2 months of trying, I wouldn't assume that yet. I would give it another cycle or two before going to the doctor. But if you're not ovulating, then, no, there wouldn't be a point to have sex on certain days versus others. You won't conceive if you don't ovulate.

Good luck.

Just because there is a smilie face doesn't mean that ovulation will take place that month. I would go into the doctor just to give you the peace of mind that everything is ok. There should be some kind of smilie face each month even if you don't ovulate. Maybe the predictor kit is incorrect. Check the batteries. Sorry, I guess I'm not much help. Go in and talk to the doctor and show the the kit when you go in.
Good Luck!!!!!

YES!!! There have been incidents of girls who have not had their period yet but have gotten pregnant. BUT, either you are ovulating and your hormone levels are so low they aren't giving results, OR (what I think is going on) you aren't ovulating because your hormone levels are too low.

If you haven't seen an Obstetrician/Gynecologist specializing in infertility, do so. They will do bloodwork to find out what is going on and you may have to be artificially stimulated to ovulate. If you've been doing ovulation tests for four months and nothing is showing, switch your brand of tests (if possible.) If you've been doing testing for six months and showing nothing, get an appointment with your doctor.

It may be long and painful but the end result is MORE worth it than I can describe! I hope this helps and I hope you are pregnant soon!

The easiest way I've come to detect my ovulation is watching my cervical fluid. On your most fertile days, your cervical fluid will be like an egg white consistency, clear and very sticky, you should be able to stretch it between two fingers about 1 1/2 inches. If your not comfortable doing that, just look at it in the tissue. It's easiest to detect after a BM, since that requires pushing, it will also make the cervical fluid come out easier too.

Try every 12 hours and a few more days either side. Your luteal phase-the time from ovulation to your period can be anywhere from 10 to 16 days. On rare occassions longer or shorter.

It is more common than you might think to not ovulate. If more than one test doesnt detect, I would contact your Dr for sure. He might suggest Clomid, which is a drug that prompts your body to ovulate.

Good luck!

i would suggest to get a different test and try that...plus you can still get pregnant when your not ovulating, the chances are just higher when you are
