They are good to eat.

The antlers are used in some crafts, and some traditional medicines.

The whole head of a good buck can be mounted as a hunting trophy - this is typically done when someone has gotten a particularly good kill, and is not the reason for hunting in the first place.

Deer skin makes very good clothing and is very warm and soft.

Good eatin :)

Deer are pests in some areas and are culled to keep the populations down. Carcasses from this activity are usually sold as meat.

Deer are culled from the wild population for various reasons. They can get out of control, and the deer population can become too large, leading to disease within the deer, or leading to an increase in predators, which may interfere with human activities when food becomes scarce.

There is a problem which happens some years, where you see a lot of deer that have died naturally and do not get cleared by predators. This is due to overpopulation, and sometimes game wardens and park managers will go out and thin the population to try to prevent this from happening. Deer killed for this purpose are sometimes cremated if they are suspected of disease.

When government agents cull deer for any purpose, except in the case of disease, the carcasses are used for beneficial purposes. Roadkill can also be claimed and used in most states.

Food - Venison is considered a very good meat by many a hunter. Unlike beef - it's much leaner, higher in protein, and generally healthier for you.

Pelts - make good blankets and clothes.

Antlers - make good trophies, hat racks, art work (lamps, chandeliers, even carvings), etc.

Population control - Look up the statistics, with no natural predators (mainly wolf and cougar) deer populations are booming. And deer being in the wrong place at the wrong time are THE number one cause of car accidents in the US.. Also, deer are quickly becoming suburban pests, destroying gardens, and pose a danger to people particularly when bucks go into rut in the fall.

Disease - In some parts of the country - Deer are now infected with Chronic Wasting Disease (very similar to Mad Cow Disease). There is a fear that through close contact - this could spread into other food supplies (cattle). The only way to eradicate this disease is to stop it before it spreads. With no cure - much less a way to administer across the entire population if we had a drug cure - killing all the deer in a particular area is the only solution.

Personally, I'm not a hunter, but I come from a family of hunters, and have friends who are also hunters. It is an annual tradition, and the reasons I gave above do validate their harvesting (killing is too strong a word) deer. Yes, there are some who kill these animals just for the fun of it, or just for the trophy antlers. Unfortunately these few give all true conservationist hunters a bad name.

Some people kill deer for the meat. Venison (deer meat) is very good. Some people kill deer to hang a trophy head on their wall. Sometimes deer are killed because the government decides that there are more deer in an area than the environment can support, and they don't want the deer just starving to death. I'm sure there are other reasons why people kill deer, but these are probably the three top reasons.

People kill deer for various reasons. It is not illegal to kill deer, infact hunting allows for the populations to stay in check. For example, here in Texas, over grazing by deer has threatened some species of birds, like the Black Capped Vireo. The reason for the birds' threatened state is because they nest in vegetation close to the ground, within the deers' grazing reach. A certain percentage of deer must be killed each year in order to help save other species of wildlife. If hunters are unavailable to keep a population in check in a certain area, then the state government will dispatch people to specifically kill deer in a certain area.

Other reasons of course is for those good ol' boys to go have a good time, experience "man-hood" and bring home some tastey meat.

The real problem with hunting is that people want to shoot the biggest deer. Well, the biggest deer are the ones who are the strongest and have been around the longest and have access to all the females. So when the big buck gets killed, the gene pool gets defected by the weaker bucks... and thus you get weaker deer populations, and less and less big bucks to mount on your wall.

Venison is better for you than beef. Lower in fat, and none of the nasty hormones and antibiotics fed to farmed animals. Also, karmawise, better to eat an animal that has a chance at survival than one that has no choice than to be led to slaughter.

Hunting deer (or any other animal for that matter) responsibly, is what puts us at the top of the food chain. People who have never hunted or fished do not have the right to say that they are the top "predator" in the world, because they are merely the top scavengers.... relying on other people to kill your meat for you is very low if you want to consider yourself a true carnivore.

Predators and prey keep a balance among themselves... In most areas, the "natural" (e.g. four-legged) predators of deer have been decimated. Hunting deer keeps their numbers in a range that the habitat can support.

Spending the day in and among Creation is good for the soul. The life you take and That which gave it life, should both be thanked upon your success.

Look up deer attacks.... they can be very mean animals. I've seen it firsthand.

Well alot of people kill deer for meat, others for hunting trophies but the main reason would be traffic accidents. More people hit deer each year then shoot them.

If deer were not hunted then they would overpopulate because their natural predators have smaller populations now than they did years ago.

We kill deer because humans kill things it is what we do and how we came to be the dominant race on the planet.

1) overpopulation - there are too many deer and not enough wild land for them to lie on. Check out the statistics regarding deer/ car collisions.

2) they taste good and are a good meat source.

3) The sport of hunting is enjoyable to some people and evolved from HAVING to hunt for food.

Now - if you've never seen deer stunted in growth because of overpopulation (try some islands off the South Carolina coast), or nevre had your car obliterated by a crash with a hefty buck, or never tasted venison hamburger or venison steak, you would not understand.

You might think all deer are like Bambi, but in reality they can be a nuisance. And hunting in a sportsmanlike manner is a thrill. Hunting just for trophies is deplorable -if you killit, eat it or give the meat away.

Now - what is the difference in hunting deer and fishing?? One animal has fur, the other has scales. Both are living creatures God placed here on Earth for us to consume.

Here in Wisconsin, over 500,000 thousand deer are killed during the hunting season each year.

I personally enjoy hunting, both during rifle season and bow season.

The deer meat (venison) is pretty good.

They need to control the deer population here and that is the best way. Plus the state of Wisconsin and Michigan make way too much money off us hunters not to have the hunting seasons.

It was stated by the Peace Prize Committee that he was awarded the Prize in recognition of the values he stood for and the accomplishments they hope he achieves during his presidency. It has been stated by members of other peace groups and coalitions who keep their collective ear to the tracks concerning these matters that the committee chose Obama for another reason, however. It is widely believed in these circles that Obama was chosen due to the low-level of political controversy it would cause in the aftermath. The committee understood that although confusion and cries of upset might be issued from the general public, on a political level he was a safe and non-confrontational choice and that within a relatively short period of time these protests would die down. Apparently some of the other nominees elected had the potential to cause strain to political ties and/or relations had they been chosen to win the prize. Another fact I'd like to point out is that Obama was only in office for about two weeks before the date of the deadline for submissions for the winner...A period which I'm sure most people will agree is far too short a time to decide upon a yet unproven president to be given such a prestigious award. Mahatma Gandhi was elected for the Peace prize five times yet never won. This is not only an embarrassment and a slap to the face of the nominees who SHOULD have been awarded the prize instead of Obama; the hundreds of individuals who EARNED the right to be called a Peace Prize recipient, it is a severe degradation of the honor and prestige of all past and future recipients as well as the moral worth of the award itself. Obama should have graciously rejected the nomination. In taking it he only cheapened both his own legacy and that of the Nobel Peace Prize. Alfred Nobel is turning in his grave (or should be).

For food, and to keep the herd from over populatiion .Also the hide /fur and antlers can be used to make stuff out of .

Deer are very intelligent animals with superb senses and a wise old buck deer is a challenge to hunt in his terrain where he has all the advantages as far as sense of sight, smell, and sound. Its also good to take older animals out of the herd to let younger stronger deer do the breeding, Also its important to take does/ female deer out of the herd to keep a balanced numbers of buck to doe ratio.
Hunters generate billions of dollars towards game management and for deer habitat improvement. There are far more deer now than there was when the pilgrims came here thanks to hunters being in charge of game management.

Hunters do more for game management than any other organization.
