I don't like cats. They stink! So cats are out. Any other suggestions?

Well, I have 2 ferrets. I love them very much. I bought them a 3 story condo, so they can have enough room to roam when I am not home. At first they nip but you can train them not to do that, and they are pretty clean, they go to the restroom in their litter area. I got mine descented, so they don't stink. All you have to do is keep their cage clean, and keep food and water in their cage. They are alot of fun, and I think they are low maintenance. Just keeping the cage clean, that just about goes for any animal. No, they do not look at rats. Go to a pet store and look at them. FERRETS RULE!!! :) LOL

A guinea pig! For a home I used an inexpensive plastic container large enough to move around and high enough he couldn't get out. I poked a small hole for the spout of the water bottle. I used kaytee kay-kob instead of shavings for a cleaner environment. Clean about twice a week. Add a few drops of vita drops at each water change. A bag of guinea pig food lasts quite awhile. I gave small pieces of fruit and vegetables (especially carrots) as treats. They have guinea pig shampoo for bathing. They are small so it doesn't take alot of shampoo. Guinea pigs are very loving pets. Mine loved to be held and petted, though I would suggest using an old towel under them when out. Guinea pigs can live up to 8 years with proper care. Short hair is much easier to keep clean than the long hair. Pets will bring alot of joy in your life.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

They don't get any lower maintenance than snakes! I have kept them in the past and can speak from experience. A dead mouse every few weeks. Clean out the feces after. You are good to go. The cage need not be cleaned all that often. They don't wag their tails when you get home either.

Hedgehogs are also delightful but not cuddly. They are very appealing and cute though. They are also low maintenance.

A regular cold water fish tank with some cool fish. Or even cooler just one or two BIG fish like Koi. Very easy care.

I would never call a bird low maintenance unless you don't take care of it and then, what's the point.

Lowest maintenance: pet rocks and stuffed animals.

Fairly low maintenance: Snakes. But it depends on their size. Some grow big enough to be fed chicken, do you feel like dealing with chicken? And if you don't handle them regularly, some may get a bit aggressive and bite.

Hope that helps.

I have two parakeets but on any given day they are a hot mess!
I also had a 4 1/2 ft. red-tailed boa constrictor named Mia. She wasn't always that big but I love her to death. She was low maintenance and fun to hang out with. When I wrapped her around me (3 times) you should have seen the people run! It was hilarious! Aside from getting loose and hiding in the window sill on occasion... she was no problem at all! Get a snake!

get some parakeets. or get a fish. parakeets only require food and water. Also you need to clean their cage once a week. same with fish. if you want the parakeets to be really low maintence, get two so they can keep each other company.

get a cute little bunny.
they're hassle free and need no special food.
can even survive on home-made food . best of all they hardly need any regular vet visits.
another +point : they clean themselves and dont need regular baths.
bunnies so cuddlesome.
