there was 200 apples on an tree and there were 6 men. each of them went to go grab an apple off the tree. how many apples did each of them get.

One, as you said each of them grabbed "an" apple. "A" and "an" usually denotes a singular.

Each men took one apple. You said,"each of them went to grab AN apple off the tree." Normally AN means one.

Since he was the only one grabbing he got as many as he wanted (up to 200)! Kind of a heck of a lot of apples... maybe he just stopped after number 1.
