I recently watched HUD starring Paul Newman, in the movie he kept calling his nephew Lonnie, "FanTan", what does that mean?? is it a name or reference popular at that time..

Fantan is an old fashioned 'card game' played for money. The 'reference' to the man's nephew 'implies' that he was 'the prize' after a game of cards ... and I guess you can 'take from that what you want' since it was only a movie.
