The goal is to separate dispensing services and drug information services, and charge for both. There is no money in dispensing medications. Medication therapy management is the new frontier. Already, this is happening. Medicare Part D allow pharmacists to charge for medication therapy management. Pharmacists will be reviewed by medicare as potential providers in about 2009. If approved, medicade and private insurance will follow.

I believe that pharmacists are paid either hourly or by salary, and included in their job description is answering customer questions.

Anyone who comes to ask in or calls the pharmacy is probably considered a customers as well, because a helpful pharmacist is most likely good for their business.

So, in essence they are being paid for it.

But that's what they are paid for. You don't think they are just selling you drugs, do you? You don't need a degree for that.

I've thought of that too! I guess its just a perk we get for being a customer. Maybe they get a really good bonus every year????!!!!????
