I have worked with this friend of mine for a long time. She is the dept head.I was ask to take the position but didn't want it.The position would not have benefited me any so i refused.I took a vacation week off, went back to work and there was so much waiting for me.I am tired of her just wanting to talk to people and i end up doing most of the work. She seems to think that it is social time everyday at work.I get so aggrivated by this. She doesn't work and talk, just stops and yaks away, i can't tell u how many times a day. I try to keep my cool but this is reall getting old.Help please.I tell her comeon we got to get done and she will say ok but it doesn't last for long..

Sounds like all you did was avoid being in a position to fire her.

Next time they offer you that position, consider taking it, especially since by then the sociallite should be gone. You're doing the work anyway.

In the meantime, do what you're supposed to do, sign off on it, or initial your work, and let Her boss deal with it.

that sound like my co worker dose the same thing she say hush I am talking and I keep n waiting for her to do the job but she dose the same thing to keep on talking rather than to do most of the work. I hear ya. well it is difference than from your caase because I work at the recreation center for the handicapped pretty much like the ARC providing service for peole with disabllities but I htink you work in a office. to relate your case. I would tell your boss about it and than that where she will get in trouble for talking so much rather than just working. but put an warming that you are goin to tell yoru boss what going on than she will get the sign if that dose not work go ahead and tell her bosss.

I know this is hard being that shes your friend, but sometimes you got to be the one that puts her straight. thats what friends are for, when you are doing something wrong than your friend should be the one to tell you. you should have a serious talk with her and tell her that you guys are there to work, and not to chit-chat. she can either respect you and understand, or she can be upset. but if this is something that is bothering you, you should tell her. sometimes its hard being friends and work associates and especially if shes the dept head. go at it the right way and just talk with her.

face it, she's gotta screw up so bad she's fired/demoted or it's YOUR butt on the line. she's got every right as your boss to give you her work (that's what being a manager IS.) if she can't get you to work, she's doing her job badly, but you'll probably see the bad work performance notices before she will. you screwed up, pal. your boss is your boss is your boss, friend or not. transfer to a different dept or look for another job. if you go to her/her supervisor or HR, you're gonna get tagged as a lazy whiner, and your work load will only remain or increase. sorry, but suck it up, you passed on the deal.

Short of going to the boss and losing a friend, try earplugs.

Try consulting someone higher up on the totem pole. She'll have to listen to them if she wants to keep her position.

You're gonna have to get a little mean and tell her exactly what you told us. You could end up losing your job if you don't handle it.
