Im an great loan officer . But lately my boss hired new people which means less leads for me.I havent complaning but he email me this which is far off from whats really going on . I get here at 7 am and get less leads .
His Email "I know you have been going through a tough time the past couple of months, but it's time for you to get yourself going!! You are going through "sales depression". You start feeling sorry for yourself, making excuses, etc. Everyone goes
through it at some point, but you have to be able to wake yourself up and get out of it!! You are capable of MUCH more than you are doing right now! This business is not easy - we know that. It takes a special kind of person to be able to come in here everyday and get themselves FOCUSED on what needs to be done on a daily basis. Are you able to do that??? That's what you have to ask yourself right now. Can you step it up or will you be stepping out? We want you here - but only YOU can control what happens from her"

Your boss is trying to tell you to find ways to start generating your OWN leads. As a managing real estate broker, I do the same with real estate agents. We do not hire people to sit by the telephone and wait for it to ring. Every new agent starts that way, but after a period of time, they are expected to start their own lead generation.

Take the hint and start looking at ways to promote yourself in the outside world.

Is it possible you were not the only one to receive the email? It almost sounds to me like it could have been sent to a number of people in your office. Talk to your boss or ask around to see what's really going on.

Either that, or it's time to start looking for another position.

As far as generating your own leads goes, call your data base and see if you can give your numbers a boost by getting some referrals or refiing prior clients.

If you're great, remind your clients how great you are. Don't let them know that you're looking for business, just touch base and see if you can help them or their friends/family.

Hang in there! Hopefully this helps!

I agree with "acermill", you've got to get out there and find other sources for leads. People who call in should be your gravey, not your meat and potatoes.

That being said, your boss could have found a better way of discussing this with you. You don't e-mail people about things that are this important. The two of you should have sat down and talked about this face to face. He should have offered you ideas on how to improve your numbers, not the B.S. he put in that e-mail.

Good Luck!

My opinion.... You need to start going after your clients, and stop waiting for random leads. Contact your previous clients, your family, friends, and neighbors. Make sure they know that you are a loan officer, and ask them for referrals. If you don't start finding other ways to generate business for yourself, you're going to be left out in the cold when this market continues to slow. Go after the business, don't wait for it to come to you!
