Oh it definitely exists. And I hate not being able to complain about it because I am white. I mean, what do I know about discrimination, right? I cannot be held responsible for the way people of other ethnic or religious groups were treated long ago because I did not do it... I was not born until the 70s, so don't blame me for things that happened before that. And don't blame me for things that happened after that either. I can honestly say I have tried to be fair my entire adult life. It is wrong to discriminate against anyone because of their race, religion or gender and NO ONE should be allowed to get away with it just because their group was wronged in the past. People should be judged on their abilities and their actions, not by their race, faith or gender. And no one should get a job just to fill some government quota.

In the USA a white male can not be discriminated against. The EEO and Affirmative Action, backed by the NAACP and threats of lawsuits is the reason.

The head of our HR department clarified this in a meeting with me using those exact words.

For example: If a white male and a minority male are applying for a position but "in this instance", the white male has the qualifications and the minority doesn't but gets hired, EEO or Affirmative Action won't take any action, but in reverse, fines will be levied, lawsuits filed, walk-outs etc. could happen.

I work for a large International company, and this only happens in the USA. In Ireland, Sweden and Germany no such laws exist.

See that's just it. Your vantage point is different than the next person. You must understand that white people were the ones responsible for racism originally . The concept of race is not even real. It is an invented concept in our country that has stirred the pot for a long time. Wheras other cultures have ethnicities, we have "races". I agree that racism and discrimination is wrong no matter who is behind it. I also understand that there are many white people who are not racist and are often caught up in being falsely accused of being racist, however, there are many more recepients of actual racism. To fully appreciate this, you must be on the receiving end of the racism to grasp it. Otherwise, it will continually be denied, debated,etc... Acknowledge it or not, racism is real, it was created in a very strategic way and depending on which side you are on, your understanding of it is limited.

In business and now seen in teaching, HR seems to look for minority candidates to take on board because it will up their "numbers" to the public and ratios/statistics possibly for government grants.. They (HR) cannot ask for race or ethnic origins, but some physical features give a clue to their possible origins. I've seen this happen at job fairs where NEW teachers were seeking employment and the individual in a MINORITY group was sought after over others in a group gathered to speak to a head hunter. I personally had four people seeking positions and one who was considered a minority was asked for his resume and within one week had calls for interviews and then 5 school systems were offering contracts. He was a smart guy in a wanted Science field, but it was so obvious what was going on. My other individuals found jobs over the next 6 months, but not as a result of this job fair, nor as easy. A true visual case of reverse profile discrimination in hiring new teachers.

Reverse discrimination is when anybody takes what I want and they're a member of a minority - when I do the same to them, it's called being Presidential.

I think it's a bit of a misnomer. Discrimination is discrimination, regardless of past histories of discrimination. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Since this is for government class I assume you'll need facts and figures and anecdotes only, instead of opinions, right? Well, an anecdote I can give you is that my daughter (black) could not attend the school of her choice because that school already had the required number of minority students.

California universities are in I think their 3rd year of color blind applications due to reverse discrimination. I've read that black and hispanic numbers for admittance are down while white and Asian numbers are up.

i don't believe in the words reverse discrimination. discrimination is discrimination period. whether or not it comes from a majority party or a minority. either way it is discrimination.
if you actually reversed it, it wouldn't be discrimination at all, would it?
that's like saying if a women rapes a man it's reverse rape. no, it's still just rape.
