Put on sunglasses, take a short break to get some aspirins or Tylenol and rehydrate, lots of water! Marathon sessions on the computer aren't for the inexperienced. I always keep a first aid box near by. Band-aids for blistered fingers; water to keep from getting dehydrated; chips, Ding-Dongs, cheese nips for energy; fresh box of Depends; the telephone is within reach in case of a wrong number; beer in case the questions start seeming important.

If it is a CRT, make sure that the refresh rate is at least 75 Hz. 60 will cause a perceptible flicker, you may not notice it if you look directly at it but it will cause a headache over time.
Adjust the brightness and contrast to where it is comfortable to look at it.
Make sure fonts are large enough to read comfortably.
Avoid text on black backgrounds.
Get off the computer! Seriously, take breaks. every 10-15 minutes stop what you are doing, sit back, stretch and close your eye for a second. Every hour or so get up and walk somewhere. Sitting in one position, staring at an object all day is going to give you a headache whatever it is.
Also, if this doe not happen frequently, you may just have a headache. Take two ibuprofen and call me in the morning.

right click on your desktop and select properties. select the settings tab and then click on advanced. select the monitor tab and if the refresh rate is 60MHz. change it to the next higher value. A CRT with a refresh rate of 60MHz will cause an almost unnoticeable flicker on the screen that can cause eye strain and head aches

It is probably the refresh rate that is giving you a headache. Try changing it to a higher setting and see if that helps.

Hi. Change the contrast and brightness, try to sit a bit farther away, change the resolution up or down. (I won't say take a break!)
