My parents are moving to san diego, cali and I want to be close (ish) to them. I have been to san diego and the oc/hollywood/las angeles areas. I don't think I would make it out there right away because cost of living is so high. I've also been to vegas, but no other parts of nevada. Any reccomendations for western states?

Northern Nevada is fairly nice...My inlaws live in Garnerville, which is just south of Carson City. The cost of living there is great! We were looking for places my niece could rent while going to school, and there were lots of listings for apartments and duplexes in the $500 - $600 a month range. Also, there are jobs everywhere...besides the local casinos, the area is booming, and there are bog-box stores opening up all over the place.

Also, there are places in Cali that are not quite so expensive. You might look around the Central Valley - Bakersfield, Fresno, etc. Housing there is much more reasonable than it is in the coastal cities.

Well Jessica, the problem here is that you want to live in extremely high priced areas of CA. If you were to live in the areas that are around 2 hours outside a metropolitan area you might have a better chance with pricing. Since you are still in college though, you might be open minded to having a roommate(s). I don't live on the west coast (east, actually) but I'm sure there are plenty of apartments or townhouses, even regular houses that are split up for rent with multiple owners. It's just a suggestion. California would be the only western state I'd live in. Just choose an area that isn't so highly populated, then the prices might go down.
