I know a hurricane can cause mass destruction, but I'd like to know if a natural disaster (like wildfire or tornado) could destroy a small area no more than 25 miles.

Yes, a tornado has NO rhyme nor reason. I have lived through many tornadoes. I have seen where the next door neighbor's House was leveled, and ours was spared (except minor damage to the exterior of the house). We housed two sets of neighbor's in our house until they could get back on their feet. We even had one family living in our motor-home at one time. My father said to thank God it did not kill or injure us, and extend a helping hand to our neighbors. That's what neighborhoods are for isn't it? It's just what people of good heart do for one another. The area of damage from a tornado can be as small as 1/2 mile, or as large as 200 miles. You just cannot say until it's over. I will say, they are very scary things.

Absolutely!

Tornados are legendary in their ability to totally destroy one area while leaving another adjacent area almost untouched. Something the size of a small baseball stadium would be taken out quite easily by a midsized or even smallish tornado.
