The exec producers already said its not purgatory and they aren't dead. They added "dead in the conventional sense", though. Check the podcasts.
I personally think dharma or TPTB are pumping them full of acid or some kind of drug. Thats the only scientic way to explain everything, especially after last night's meeting with Jacob. Locke even made fruit paste one time that made him hallucinate, who's to say dharma didn't harvest that fruit, exract the chemical, and add it to all the food in the food drop??

I thought they were in purgatory like someone already said especially after last week because he said something like 'were dead and were not in heaven or hell so where are we?' but its not true because the producers have said that there not in purgatory so there goes my theory lol.

I personally have thought that they were in purgatory. But since the last episode, I really think that they are in purgatory. They're dead either way...
