I'm thinking about going with Virgin for my broadband (and maybe telephone, Sky for TV as I need Sky 1) and need to know a few things, but they don't seem to have an enquiry email address (!) so...
Is it an ok service? I'm getting an unlimited 8mb version if that makes a difference.
Oh, and I want to use the modem they send me to play my Xbox 360 online, so it would need an ethernet socket. Will it have one or would I have to buy a router?
Thanks!

To the comment that Sky and Virgin are different things, yes I know...
I was with NTL and they were beyond awful (never managed to speak to them unless I spent at least an hour on hold), now I'm with AOL and they are nearly as bad (awful customer service).
Sky won't give us broadband as it is 'sold out' in my area for the foseeable future. And I would like to stay with BT for my phone if possible.

I can't wait to leave Virgin Broadband. I have had nothing but problems since I joined them. There virus protector has never worked properly and I have had virus after virus. It freezes alot and can be slow at times. It does have an Ethernet connection on the box so you should be able to connect your x box, but I don't know a great deal about that.
Have you spoke to sky about their broadband, they may be able to offer a deal as you are already an existing customer.

You will need a router, also have a read at this, just released yesterday, unlimited may be, but sure not the speed you are paying for..

** Chelle, you shuoldnt use the rubbish AV from Virgin, or ones from AOL, they are as useful as a window without the glass on a stormy day.

Yep - Virgin have taken over Telewest. i'm a customer with them too, and that i've got been given a letter a pair of weeks in the past explaining the takeover - you're able to have have been given one too? basically it stated that issues won't exchange for us exisiting purchasers - the provider and fee will stay te comparable as in the previous, all it extremely ability is that throughout the time of your economic employer statment your direct debit will now be going to Virging extremely of Telewest.

I've been with Virgin for several years and most of the time it has been fine. I believe former NTL customers are experiencing problems though.

1) Sky and virgin seperated, you can no longer watch Sky on virgin. Atleast as far as i know.
2) the virgin broadband is a SCAM and is NOT unlimited, if you look carefully on there website it will actually say "Unlimited*", when you follow the * it says "*Subject to fair usage policy", you search for the fair usage policy and they have a 40gb a month limit, which is actually extremely low.
3) i don't know about the ethernet socket, depends what type of modem\router they supply.
My opinion: DO NOT buy from virgin.
I'd recommend ADSL24 as a very good ISP. (www.adsl24.co.uk)

Hi
If you have a BT phone line I would strongly recommend that you do NOT go with Virgin. If you change everything to them and you don't like it then not only are you stuck into your contract (as you would be with any agreement) but once that contract comes to an end then you have to go back to BT to get your phone line reinstalled/reactivated and this can take a while.
With a a BT line you have lots of choices without it you have only the one

This is totally unscientific, but of the 4 friends who I knew have Virgin/NTL, 3 of whom are always fuming about their lack of customer service... They say it's a good service, *until* you need to talk to them for any reason.
Others may have different experiences, just saying what I've heard.
