Why do husbands cheat on their wives and then lie about it?

Some of the previous answerer's seem a bit cynical about this. Some wives don't. Some husbands don't. Fundamentally we all know when we do something wrong. We come up with justifications or excuses why it is alright, as a reason to do what seems like the better (or easier) course of action. They are just excuses though and in the end no one benefits.
And as to the lie about it part, they don't want to admit to it because they know they were wrong and they don't want the other person to know that about them.

Because they are bad wives with a very twisted list of moral values. , or maybe they jsut started little by little, in all earlier relationships, and now when married it aint such a big deal to them.
The reason why they dont wanna tell you, may be cause they are ashemed, or they wanna keep you cause of something you got, maybe cash?.
There is actually no correct explanation for cheating on someone else more than that they are bored of the person they married and Hadn't at all thought through what a comitment marrige is. Or they jsut dont value a marrige, they jsut think its a symbolic way to say I love you, lets live together.
Or maybe, the husaband/wife has changed since their marrige for the very worst?

I think its wrong and if they are not happy they should tell that person I'm not happy and end it, instead of cheating.

People lie because they lack the courage to tell the truth.
With that said, why would you want to stay with someone who has cheated on you? Aren't you worth more than that? If she cheats on you one time, she will do it again. Where are you in a relationship if you can't trust someone? Move on and let God find you a good woman.

They lie about it to keep from loosing their husband. The reason they cheat is usually because they arn't getting the affection that they need and sometimes because they were sexually abused at an early age and this causes them to be very hungry for physical affection of any kind.

Sometimes people cheat even though they still care about their partners. They lie about it because they do not want their partners to be hurt. Neither the cheating nor the lying are justified here; this is a reason -not an excuse.

there isn't a good answer to the question because there are so many different reasons people cheat. I have cheated before, but came clean about, i didn't do it for a physical reason, my ex-wife cheated on me and still doesnt have a good reason. I guess it is one of those things that people will never have a truly specific reason for
