I don't think Bush's foreign policy fiasco will be beaten in a long, long time.

Average at best. Preached small government and fiscal responsibility in his campaigns and delivered neither as president. The size of government and the national debt grew to, at the time, record levels under Regan. Preached corporate and wealthy tax breaks as a means of stimulating the economy (the infamous trickle down economics or as Bush Sr. called it, voodoo economics). Under Reagan inflation grew, unemployment grew, the average American yearly income dropped. Reagan furthered and accelerated the deregulation policies of Carter which was the beginning of the end for the American manufacturing and textile industries. After signing a tax cut in his first year (the majority of which was a drastic drop in the corporate tax rates) Regan proceeded to raise taxes in 5 of his remaining 7 years in office. Reagan foreign policy consisted of huge spending for the military which did help in driving the USSR into economic bankruptcy. And while Reagan talked tough he turn and ran US troops out of Somalia. And probably the most famous and damaging foreign policy Reagan began was the Iran Contra scandal. So that is why I say Reagan was an average, at best, US president.

It's easy to sharpshoot a president who has worked his rear end off to try and keep this country safe after 9/11. Politicians were in agreement with the Patriot Act; they agreed on the invasion of Afghanistan; the invasion and removal of a real threat to this world Saddam Hussein. All of you arm chair foreign policy experts. would have done what differently. Sat on your butts and let us get attacked again. Maybe you should fire up that video of the twin towers again. Maybe you should think about what it's like to spend your last moments falling 100 stories. Maybe you think about what it feels like to get your head sawed off with a serrated knife. Whoever the next president is, I hope they take an aggressive stance like this president. We don't need any ostriches.

I know you don't like it but Matt is 100% right. I do wish we would stay home and let the world fend for itself because none of the good stuff we do ever gets any credit. If the rest of the world hates us so why are so many of them trying to get into this country? We are the most generous and helpful country on earth. Sure a lot of countries don't like us because they hate what we stand for, the rights for people to have individual freedom and a government that is elected. We have given more money to fight hunger and aids then the rest of the world combined and yet we are the bad guys. the next time you need help call China our phone is busy! God bless America!!!

The things that get done in America are done on clandestine levels of financial power and transmitted in scripted presentation for the enactment by the president or any other official that is cast in the part at the moment

Expectations and hopes are for the best. But it may need to be altered. Our position as a super power always was and always will be a reason for other countries to hate us. It will take years of diplomacy to bring credibility and respect back. Good ole' "boot in behind" way is not working anymore. 21 century is a century of war of economies and finances; war domination cannot be established by force but by influences. Otherwise we always will be in reactive mode.

In all seriousness, I do not think our foreign policy could get any worse.
And President Obama will surely address that and bring respect back to our country in the minds of the rest of the world.

It's can't get any worse than it is right now.
The U.S. is almost universally hated throughout the world because of Bush's policies.
