James Buchanan is worse than either of those guys, worse than Carter, worse than anyone else you care to name. He dawdled while the nation ripped apart at the seams. He failed to take any action to prevent southern succession and the bloodiest war in American history. I'd say that qualifies him to be the worst. Bush has been bad, but people who say he's the worst ever need to pick up a history book and gain some perspective. Too often, we're too eager to put anything that happens within our lifetimes as being the "best" or the "worst" ever, and it just isn't always like that. Reagan is touted by some as one of the best presidents ever. He did okay, but did he face the problems that Washington or Lincoln or FDR did? Not even close. Have some perspective.

Actually up until now it has been James Buchanan who has had the title of worst US President. Now we have one that is worse than ol Jimmy B. His name is our beloved fearless leader George W. Bush. It will be some time before this happens again. Buchanan had the title for over 150 years. How long, one can but wonder, will Bush keep the title of America's worst.

Presidential Scholar and near expert.

It will take a number of years before Bush can be judged fairly and objectively by historians.

Right now there is just too much riding on his opponents agreeing with him when he's right, or his supporters disagreeing with him when he's wrong.

I can safely say that he won't we the best, but he'll certainly be far from the worst.

Bear in mind that Lincoln's approval ratings sucked and he's on our currency. Reagan's approval ratings also sucked and now he's acknowledged as a hero.

I cant think of one President as bad or worse, his approval ratings are lower than Jimmy Carter when the U.S. had 20% interest rates and the economy was a mess back in the late 70's.

I believe he now holds the record for lowest approval rating for the longest time in history.

So, yeah.
