it never says in the nursery rhyme exactly, but in every book/movie/whatever i've seen him in he was an egg. and when i was in kindergarten (we had to pick a nursery rhyme to act out in front of the class and the parents) and i picked humpty dumpty and i dressed up like an egg {Lol}
