I was wondering if it is possible to teach yourself Spanish.
If anyone can give me tips or anything that would be great, and how long does it take to become fluent in spanish?

E-mails are welcome, thanks.

It's possible to teach yourself anything with the proper motivation and reference materials. Check out your local library, they might have Spanish books-on-tape then you could teach yourself Spanish for the cost of a few late fines! Everyone learns at a different rate, it's difficult to say how long it would take one person to become fluent. I think Starbucks puts on language lesson evenings now...

I entered secondary school just after France had chickened out of WW2, and was so disgusted at being taught the language "of those people" that at the age of 11 I decided to teach myself German. If I could do it for German, I am sure I could have done it for Spanish (which I learned at evening school years later). I started by learning declensions, conjugations and irregular verbs, and got them out of the way first, so I would support your idea of learning conjugations first and not be put off by any fear of "rules and things to be explained later." You, I am sure, learned many things as a toddler about your native language long before you could fully understand them!
