That stuck to documented facts. To me, it seem's high schoolish. Also, it seems to be a indactor as to WHY no one votes anymore.

That would require us to be mature and for us to actually know the issues

it would be nice to see the American people get out of the "Red /Blue" mindset and start getting into a "whats best for our country" mindset. The are you Dem. or Rep. bull has to go. Why do you have to be affiliated with a political party? it seems that if a Republican has a good plan. the Democrats will bash it just because its a "republican" idea. and vise/ versa.

When will we get back to "by the people, for the people" . the problem with politics now days is that, thats all it is. its meaningless. Its for itself and not for the people. Democrats are for democrats and republicans are for republicans. like a boxing match between two opponents.

we should have 3 presidents, A democrat, a republican and an idependent.

How interesting would that be??

I see lots of questions like that on here, the problem in those cases is finding Answers that don't slander the opposing party. The Bipartisan system is an effective way to make sure that every voice is heard, unfortunately nobody's listening anymore.

I would like to see true debates, perhaps with a point system! :)

We have lost the ability to engage in TRUE argument. All we do is scream at each other now.

I've dreamed of having a debate show with rules and points. I think it would be tremendous fun. For example, one rule could be:

- answered question with a question -1 point
- attempts to change subject of debate by introducing a non-related argument -10 points
- use of all inclusive terms not based in verifiable fact (e.g. "everyone knows that") -2 points
- cutting off an answer before time limit ends (e.g. "talking over someone") -1 point
- counters opponent claim with verified fact +2 per fact
- use of logical fallacies (penalty varies based on violation)

Many of these rules would be based on basic decency and debating rules and formats. This would force people to make proper arguments with proper formats, etiquette, and research, among other things. Judges could be, for example, a panel of five judges consisting of a certified Liberal, a certified Conservative, a Republican, a Democrat, and a certified Centrist or Independant.

Each show would be one hour, uninterrupted on C-SPAN, with only one topic per episode.

This would be much fun! What do you think?

Maybe it's high schoolish because most of the people here are in high school, or think they are.

As for nobody voting - this kind of stuff makes me want to vote MORE.

Who slanders the other party? You will not find a Liberal or Conservative who will admit that their comments are not back by facts.

Your question just opens up the "can of worms" that allows each side to point fingers saying that it them. They are the ones that do it all the time. Them them them not me not us not my team.

The majority of the Nation does not vote because they are ALL tired of the "they did it routine." What I would like to see is a politician to say Yes I made this decision and I will stand by my decision. I would like to see a politician say this is what I did or did not do, and not look what he or she did. What I did or didn't do is not important.

You shouldn't take YA as an indicator of the general population, Yahoos political message boards were like this for years, there is a large population of trolls here that persist in making these questions because they want attention and they know there are plenty of people who will reply to the outrageous questions and give them that attention, you see this behavior in un-moderated forums like yahoo.

You have to understand that the people who make these questions don't even care about the issues that their questions involve, they are simply using them as a tool to get people to reply.

I agree 100%. Actual discussion as opposed to the chicken hawk vs. liberal panty waste discussion that we see here every day. Very few people fit into the cube of liberal or conservative. Thinking people have ideas on a wide range of topics and keep an open mind as to a wide range of others. Can't we just discuss these issues without the name calling?

This is a venting-spleen venue, not a serious discussion place. That's why we see "Why do liberals hate America?" in thinly veiled variation every hour on the hour, or political gossip and tabloid rumors, and no real discussion of issues or philosophy.

Besides, it's mostly kids here. What do you expect?

That would be very difficult for most people because most people do not know what the facts are. They never research anything for themselves. They simply rely on the information (or misinformation) that they get from TV, radio, and newspapers.
