people have to be more specific.....
what do you mean by "overall"
we'd have to weigh answers on values given to total hits, singles, doubles, triples, home runs.....there's a lot to consider, what are you looking for?
as with the last vague "best hitter" question
i'm going Ted Williams
but you'll get Wade Boggs
Babe Ruth
Pete Rose and so on

How can the previous people forget about Hank Aaron? Sure, Ted Williams might have had the best numbers, but he doesn't. No matter the reason. Babe Ruth would be in the discussion, of course. And, unfortunately, we have to consider Bonds with this question.
I'm going with Hank.

By adjusted OPS, it's Ruth, followed by Williams and Bonds.
By Runs Created, it's Ruth, followed by Bonds and Aaron (Ted's way down at #6).
We can noodle numbers in other ways, but it pretty much boils down to Ruth, followed by Williams, with Bonds in there no matter how much people want to hate him for being so good.
Had Williams not given up nearly five full seasons to military service, he'd probably be #1, but he did -- thanks for that, Ted -- and we cannot give credit for games not played.
