Thome in a heartbeat! Hamilton is hot and is currently the flavor of the month but Thome has a history...a very good history of being a top fantasy producer. This looks like the perfect opportunity to sell high while Hamilton is hot....if he cools a bit (and if the other guy is paying attention his bat has cooled) there is no way you can make a deal for someone of Thomes caliber. Delmon Young started hot and I was able to ship him off for Franceour, guess who is getting the better of that deal. Take the known commodity while you can....Thome will be fine and put up big numbers without worrying you to death. And he plays on a very good offensive team so the numbers will come once he gets back.

I guess it depends on your needs. If you have a ton of good outfielders and an open DL spot I say do it. If however your DL spot is taken with a good player who may return soon like BJ Ryan or Rich Harden, then I see no reason to dump them or waste a bench spot to hold onto Thome.

You might also want to think about the team you are trading with! Are they stuck with an injured Thome and a weak outfield? Would giving them Hamilton allow them to gain ground or extend a lead on you in any catagories? Sometimes just hogging usefull players, even if you can't use them yourself, can help your team! I currently have a team with Soriano, Abreu, Bay, Hamilton, Alou, Sheffield, and Teahan as outfielders. Do I need all those guys? No, but I hold all the chips when someone else comes up with an outfield need. ;^)

I'd hang on to Hamilton unless your desperate for homers. Thome is injury riddled, and only UTL eligible. Expect 1 or 2 more trips to the DL this season. Hamilton is the unknown, and might get even better than he is currently.

Tough call. If Thome stays healthy, he's a top-tier player and Hamilton is an unknown. There's always the "rookie wall" that you need to be wary of. I guess it depends mostly on your needs. I believe once Thome is back and the Sox are clicking again, he'll have a fine year.

This trade is a no-brainer. It baffles me that the previous answers have been so skeptical. Thome hits for incredible power in a lineup featuring Konerko, Dye, Podsednik, and Uribe.

It should also be noted that when a player is confined to the DH spot, he is placed in a low pressure position where he can focus entirely on his offensive side of the game.

I'd make the deal. Hamilton is a risk in real life and in fantasy. Anyone with a drug history like his will always make me a little worried.
