When I became pregnant with my daughter, I hadn't had a period in a year. Still not sure how this was possible...

They were not sure, thought I had some hormonal problems...possibly polycystic ovarian syndrome. They just said they didn't think I should have been able to get pregnant - I didn't push the issue...

BTW, I understand how the whole biology of it works - more wondering, how the baby survives without those nutriants etc. She was very small, I thought this might have been a possible reason...

I am the same way. The lining in the uterus and the ovulation of an egg are connected but not entirely. What probably happened (which happened in my case) you didn't ovulate at all during that year. When you ovulate, the egg sends a signal to the lining that either "I need to implant" or "there is no need" and the egg discharges and soon after the lining (period) shortly follows. In our case, if we don't ovulate, the lining stays there = no period. When the ovaries FINALLY decide to let an egg go (ovulation) and it just so happens to get fertilized by daddy - the egg implants in the lining - still no period because now that lining is being used for the baby.

I hope this didn't confuse you.

just becasue you hadn't had your period doesn't mean you didn't release an egg. most women usually ovulate about 2 weeks before their period or 2 weeks into their cycle. maybe you were going to have a period but you got pregnant first. get what i'm saying

I guess it's because your body released on egg for the first time in a year, and you had sex during the right time and it fertilized and attached, so you didn't get your period.

A lot easier to explain than my story. I had my period for two months while I was pregnant. Now that is hard to explain.

what is the reason for you not having your period? my sister has crons diease and they told her that she would never be able to get pregnant and she didn't have her cycle in about 3 years, and she ended up getting pregnant twice! so it is possiable, it just depends on the situation.

Congrats

Because you ovulate first and then the body releases your menses if no pregnancy occurs.
