I'm looking at colleges that are good with the 'arts' programs, though I'm open to other majors as well. So any information would help.

I did graduate work there years ago. It is a big university. I don't just mean it is big -- it is BIG. It is also a great university.

Being big brings two things with it. For some, it means they get lost in the crowd. For others, it means they get thrown into an exciting environment.

Many introductory classes are big -- but more advanced classes are small. Since I was a graduate student, most of my classes had between five and 20 students.

Large classes are the big negative of large universities. The big positive is that a lot more courses are offered -- courses that most universities can't afford to offer.

Minnesota is a place where you can get as good an education as anywhere in the world -- including Ivy League schools. But it is less selective than many of the premier public universities in the US. It is easier to get into than schools like Michigan, Berkeley, UNC or Virginia. This means that if you are one of the people who gets a great education at Minnesota, you will have to work harder to prove that you have a great degree -- while a Harvard graduate just has to say he has a degree from Harvard.

Did I mention it is big?
