I have always enjoyed visiting the US. The people I have met have been friendly and made me feel welcome. However, watching the stream of bad news on CNN this last year, and seeing how it appears that the Administration is on a different tack to the US population, and apparently making terrible blunders, I started to feel uneasy. I wonder if we were to stray from our present relationship with the US, such as stopping selling oil to them completely, what would happen.

Why would Canada do that? If Canada decided to attack the US economically then yes the US would find a way to strike back economically too I am sure and we would be justified in doing so. I seriously doubt we have much to worry about in terms of physically attacking each other or declaring outright war, but our economies do affect each other and for a nation such as Canada to choose to cut us off like that would be a form of economic aggression and would be worthy of a comprable response.

Would you think the US would be wrong in hitting back Canada's economy if Canada ever chose to cut off oil from the US? In this day and age of a global economy, it might do more damage to a nation to go after its economy than its military.

Thats a silly supposition. Canada will sell their oil to whatever country will pay the marketable rate for oil. That includes China, India, and just about anybody that will pay for it. Get real, Canada and the US share one of the longest and friendliest borders in the world. 90% of Canada's resident live within 100 miles of the US border. The relationship is like a brother and brother, yeah, we get mad at each other once in a while, but if anybody else messes with us, we will both be in the malee!

thank you for noting how the people are on a different 'tack' than the current leadership -

We could never invade China - 1st we no longer have resources for any major military conflict, troops, equipment,

perhaps private contractors 'for profit' might have the resources, but couldn't take on a giant like China, a nuclear super-power with massive military and fully equiped, and financially sound, America would be begging for mercy in a about 2 minutes -

So, we Americans will just try to quietly pay our notes that China purchased from our debt, and continue to work and buy Chinese made products at Wal-Mart.

But maybe we better learn to speak Chinese soon.

Or our water, or electricity, or anything else that they want? Look what happened when we decided to fight them over the soft wood lumber tarrifs! They still haven't paid back that $6 BILLION they owe us on that fiasco. I think that if we get another fundamentalist Christian as the American president, or if Bush decides to change the rules and run again, we are royally screwed.

It would cause your economy to go into a major inflation. Don't worry about it, your economists know this and would never allow it to happen.
