Julius Caesar (founder of Roman Empire), Ghengis Khan (conquered half the world, from China to Europe), Queen Victoria (managed a worldwide British Empire, established worldwide trade), Constantine (last Roman Emperor), Hippocrates (father of modern medicine), Plato, Aristotle, Socrates (3 fathers of modern logic, famous philosphers), Ptolomy (one of the last Egyptian Pharohs, scientist).
There are also a few modern US Presidents to consider: Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Teddy Roosevelt. All 3 led the US into becoming the major world player that it is now.

Dont forget that they dont have to necessarily have had a good major impact on the world .... it can also be a bad impact - it looks as though your teacher just said a major impact .....

It is your writing and your perception and how this person moves you - that will have your classroom in awe of your paper ..... Not just the facts out of a book ..... but the passion your write from that translates onto your paper.

There might be people who had a major impact - but that really personally doesnt affect you - someone like that might be hard for you to write a paper on .... make sure it someone that their act - stirs something inside of you - someone you connect with ............

If you want a person who I'm sure will win you some brownie points this is your lucky day. Murasaki Shikibu is among the 100 most influential women and the first female novelist. In the 11th century, a time in which women could tell stories but could not write, Murasiki wrote "The tale of Genji" Murasaki Shikibu was a lady in the Heian Court of Japan and was a popular story teller and the first to put her story to paper. Good luck on your quest.

Going with someone outside the norm can be a little harder, cause not as much information will be gathered about them, but it's a good idea. Try Empress Catherine of Russia, or Winston Churchill, or Audrey Hepburn. Find a subject you like and see who were some famous people that you don't recognize, then choose one of the names and get to googling! Have fun, cause this can be!

I had to do a project (8th grade) spanish and we had to pick spanish people who are (or were)very famous. It is really boring doing an easy person so we chose a more classic spanish musician who nobody except for the teacher knew about and we ended up having like the best report instead of doing someone like selena or Shakira who is sooo played out. it's good you want to choose someone different.

Milton Hershey. Founded the Hershey company. Look at the effect of chocolate around the world. From the rations of World war I to present day production. Where can you not find a Hershey bar?

He's the great American success story. He sold caramels door to door. Where can you find a story of him being mean or tyrannical?

Philanthropists like Milton Hershey, who started from such humble origins, almost never leave such a fingerprint on the world.

Plus, you can give out Hershey kisses at the end of your presentation. Your classmates will love such a sweet surprise.

George Washington would be a good one. He was the father of our country and since he was our first President, he ran the country at a time when we were not a superpower. Obviously his leadership had a major impact on the world.

Tell your friend who is doing Jesus to read "What if Jesus had Never Been Born".

Ummm, I think General Rommel, the desert fox was interesting. Alexander the Great had an impact. So did Muhammed.

I suggest Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. Just as the microcomputer changed our way of communicating today, his invention changed the world by allowing the masses to learn, innovate and create better and faster than before. If you decide to use him, a Yahoo Search: inventor printing press will obtain much information.

Good luck.
