im a new mom to my soon to be 1 month old daughter. i feed her 3 oz of formula whenever shes hungry. but about an hour later, shes hungry again so i give her another oz. an hour after that, shes ready for another 3. is that normal? should i just move her up to 4 oz? ive asked her ped. *whom im going to change* and she said if she acts like shes hungry after an hour, just let her cry until her next feeding time. im not exactly to fond on starving my daughter so i need another opinion.

i would start 4 oz. She will be happier. She will probably eat more at a certain time of day, and go a while without eat at some time during the day(if you are lucky that time will be at night and she will sleep for a long time). I feed my 5 month old when she is hungry...whether its an hour in between or 12 hours(at night) in between. She has slept at least 10 hours a night since she was 2 months old. I'm not a big fan of letting babies cry when they are hungry. You are the mom. do what you think is best.

If she's hungry, let her eat. Start offering her more than 3 oz. Try making her bottles 4 oz. If this seems to satisfy her better, great. If not, she may need more. But 4 should work for a while. As the baby grows, she will require more and more formula. My 4 month old niece and nephew are eating 6 oz every 4 hours. You can't over feed a baby that young. If she's not hungry, she will not eat. But if 3 oz is not satisfying her, offer her more. Good luck.

I would make a 4 oz bottle instead of a 3 oz bottle, she will quit eating when she is full. I think throwing 1/2 an ounce away is better than a hungry baby.

OR If she is ready for another bottle an hour later, make it a full bottle, and let her eat as much as she wants. again, throwing away is better than a hungry baby.

She may just be needing more, because she is growing and can handle more. You can not overfeed an infant, they stop when they are full, Us adults should be so lucky!

I never let my babies cry out in hunger!!! Feed on demand. Make a bottle when she wants to eat. one hour or 3 hours!

Congratulations on your bundle of wonder and joy!

PS Please do not put cereal in a babys bottle. Bottles are for milk, Spoons are for solids. Cups are for Juice.

That Dr. is crazy! If she is hungry feed her. My son has acid reflux and could'nt handle more than 2 oz at a time and was eating every 1.5 hours until last month. If your baby wants to take more you can try to give her 4oz and see how she tolerates it. I have never heard its good to let them cry until the next feeding! Babies know when they are hungry and will not eat if they are not hungry. There is no need to worry about over feeding her. Good luck!

I feed my kids whenever they want to be feed. My ped was amazed the first couple time I took my daughters in they were 6 week preemies, and were eating 3 Oz's. But he said as long as they are not throwing it up then go for it. if they start to throw up then you have to cut it down and shorten the hours between feeding and build back up. Good luck

Try feeding her 4 oz. at her next feeding. She probably is ready for more. Mine did the exact same thing. However it could be that she is just on a funky feeding schedule & then you'll just have to stick it out.

Kudos on switching peds & not starving your child!

Newborns are fed on demand. I would feed my newborn whenever she showed any signs of being hungry. There were some days where I'd have to wake her up to feed her, and some days where she wanted to eat every hour! So, just follow her lead.

Babies don't really get into any kind of routine until they are at least 2-3 months old.

A lot of the time, when they're that young it's "feed on demand."

She'll eventually adjust to somewhat of a schedule however be prepared for growth spurts where the demand increases dramatically for a period of 4 days to a week. These spurts will occur several times over the course of a year.

I had the SAME problem with my son, my ped. (who is TOTALLY AWESOME!) told me that's his way of telling me that he needs more when he eats. My son went from 3 oz. to 4 oz. in a week at 1.5 months and is 3 months now, he's been eating 4 oz. since then... OH! and go with your gut and CHANGE DOCTORS!!!

I think I would move up slowly like 4 oz one feed 3 the next... etc. Let your mommy instincts guide your judgement.
