I get marker on my hands a lot.. I noticed that after I do the dishes most of it seems to have come off. I guess it is all that soaking in the hot, soapy water.

There's a couple things you can try...first, try paying attention in Civics class next time so you don't end up with black fingernails, or like me, with no clue about anything I was supposed to have learned in Civics!
Anyway, the first tactic I would take is to try to use an oil-based solvent. There's a waterless hand cleaner that's pretty industrial, it's called "Goop". My dad used to keep it in his carpentry shop. Stuff would clean tar off of feathers. Also, household stain remover called "Goo Gone" - although it might leave your skin a little rough, it might dissolve some of the ink. That one's pretty easy to find.
If those don't work, you might want to look in the nail care aisle of your drug store, near all the Sally Hansen products, for one of those products that is for removing cuticles. BE CAREFUL. This stuff is bascially acid. You can't use a lot, you can't leave it on for long, and you can't rub it in. And you can only use it once a week. Seriously. It will eat the dead skin (cuticles) around your nails.
So if none of those work, I recommend buying one of the hot new aubergine (eggplant) colored nail polishes, and try to rock those dark nails until your cuticles grow out!
Good luck!

1) Use a cuticle remover cream or gel from the drugstore. Follow the directions & only use it once or twice a week. Do not cut your cuticles.
2) Soak your nails in a dissolved denture tablet or swipe them w/ a cotton pad soaked in hydrogen peroxide. Rinse your nails well.
3) Keep your nails moisturized and wash them w/ a nail brush over the next few days.
Be patient. The ink will come off soon.
