I am a clean freak. But for some reason I can not scrub hard enough or long enough to get the mold between the tiles. Should I recalk the shower? To me, that just seems like it covering the problem not fixing it. Any suggestions?

I use one of those battery powered scrub brushes with Ajax or comet powder.

Caulk stains very easily, and you will never get the stains out. If you are talking about grout between the tiles, they sell pretty caustic stuff to get at mildew. Grout is porous, and what goes in must come out. Sometimes it is easier and safer for the environment to use a grout saw to saw down the grout, re-grout and this time make sure the grout is properly sealed. A properly sealed grout that is kept clean will not get mildew. Sealing will have to be redone every few months, but the sealing is the easy part.

As for the caulk, like I said it stains and it won't come out. Remove the caulk, do not caulk over it. This is just covering the problem. To remove the caulk, I find a good, old-fashioned razor blade works best. On the horizontal, use the razor blade flat against the surface. On the vertical the same. Then the caulk should just peel up. Once that is done, bleach wash the area. Allow to dry for 24 hours, then recaulk. Let the caulk dry for another 24 hours before use.

Get an old spray bottle, add bleach to a third of it, & a third of white vinegar, & the rest water. Spray your shower daily & let air dry. The bleach zaps the mildew & the acidity in the vinegar zaps saop scum. It could take a week or two before a difference is noticed, depending on the build up of scum.
Or try a product called Greased Lightning. & follow directions, but wear a pollen mask & ventalate the room by opening windows.

I had the same problem once and I used ammonia to clean it. I wore a mask and put straight ammonia in a spray bottle, sprayed it and let it sit for 30 min. I then went back in and rinsed it off. That worked great but be careful not to breath the vapors and have plenty of ventilation. Also, have you tried a magic eraser, those work great on so many things.

Keep mildew from taking hold by wiping shower walls with a towel after each shower.
If the shower area is subject to mildew, periodically spray it with a mildew inhibitor and disinfectant.
Leave the shower door slightly open to allow air to circulate; this will discourage the growth of mildew.
Remove hard-water deposits on shower enclosures with a solution of white vinegar and water.
Glass shower doors will sparkle when you clean them with a sponge dipped in white vinegar.
Add 1 cup liquid fabric softener to 1 quart warm water, and use to loosen and clean soap scum from shower doors.

still use what you are have for the cleanup but use your broom (small bristols) to run up and down the tiles.
this will loosen the grime and mold....
way easier then you manually scrubbing...

you can throw a bit of ajax which is a stronger product..

You might indeed wish to recaulk. But I've found that bleach is great for getting rid of most mold and mildew.

Tilex is good for that. Follow the direction well, though.
