I don't think so. He is a great pitcher, but who really knows how much he has left in his tank. Last year he was only 7-6. I don't think that it is quite worth 4.5mil. But again it is the Yankees and they are struggling right now. So anything for them can help.

You are a yankees fan. no, he doesn't still have the stuff that made him a HOF. No he definitely isn't worth 28 million a year, even though his contract is more like 13.8 million for half the year, because that is all he played. Paying that much for the Rocket is crazy, and that is why he signed with the Yankees. I am willing to bet that even he never expected anyone to be crazy enough to pay him that much, but when the pitching crazed yankees needed someone, anyone, they dished out ALOT of moolah for a guy that isn't even highly productive anymore. I don't understand Yankees fans, who say, "The Red Sox spent SO much money on Dice-K, they spend just as much as the yankees, that much money is crazy!". Well lets think this through logically, Dice-K will come to the U.S. and spend many seasons being a great pitcher. His contract is for 7 years, which pretty much locks him up in Boston for a long time, and he will no doubt be at the very least a very productive pitcher. All signs are pointing towards all star caliber for Dice-K, in his future. They you have Roger Clemens. The Yankees go out and pay a 40+ year old pitcher years removed from the American league (AL is considerably stronger.) and pay him more money than most veteran pitchers. He only comes to the ballpark when he is pitching, and he pitches inconsistant, and has a .500 record. I like what the Red Sox did, and I think the Yankees just spent ALOT of money for nothing. But hey, when you have that much money, it doesn't really matter if you make a $28 million dollar mistake does it.

Obviously not. But the Yankees were desperate for pitching and had the money to do it. It will cost them an additional 7.5 million in luxury tax, so they invested almost 26 million bucks for 20-22 starts. That's over 1 million per start. Figure 100 pitches per start, that's over 10,000 dollars PER PITCH!!! Now that's really ridiculous.

Nope...not unless he brings a championship back to New York. I think it was a stupid move but if the Yankees win the world series then this will go down as one of the best free agent pick ups ever. I hate the pr1ck to tell you the truth

Time will tell, but every win he gets for the Yankees will cost them HUGE bucks. In that regard, he is hardly worth what they are paying a self-centered, self adulating, non-team player.
Chow!!

Only if he helps them win the WS. Even then, it is questionable, but since that is the ONLY acceptable outcome to Steinbrenner it will not be worth it if the don't win it all.
But in terms of Talent...kind of worth it. He is pretty amazing.
