Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Queen is now taxed on her wealth, so I am sure that it costs the Kingdom nothing to maintain the Royals. As a Consitutional Monarchy, with the Monarch being head of State, it seems a Win-Win scenario.

The monarchy of the UK only has influence if anything. Unlike earlier times, they really do not have any power, just a figure head is all. But many in the UK consider the monarchy as a national symbol, so probably not.

No- the monarchy is an example of continuity, duty and tradition. It is also a romantic ideal- many girls would love to be a princess. If we abandon our ideals then we continue what was first primarily fashionable in the early 20th century and accelerated from the late 1960s onwards- the dangerously misguided attempt to make everybody equal (no matter how accomplished or unique their achievements have been) and the general de-romanticization of life. The Royal Family may seem to have gilded lives but they do a lot of charity work and public events and must constantly be protected from people who would begrudgingly wish them harm. (People rarely begrudge lottery winners yet they have similar wealth to Royalty without the obligations of Royalty).

No - HM the Queen works very hard for the UK and brings in a lot of money to the country, both in terms of business, and in terms of tourism.

Besides, who would you rather have our police and armed services swear alleigance to - an apolitical, neutral head of state or "president" blair?

I have wondered that a bit myself, but im not a citizen of the UK and that is up to them. I dont understand besides the social aspect of it why they hold on to it but thats for the UK to decide.

Nah. Just think of all the neat "news" they generate. Star, Enquirer, Globe and others would have to work too hard for good gossip.

I'm not sure about this one... on the one hand it brings in a great deal of tourism but on the other hand... well who pays for all the royal family's fancy stuff?
