Men tend to be more visually orientated than women. Porn is a visual medium. Porn desinged specifically for women tends to be shot largely in the dark ("subtle" lighting) and has a keen emphasis upon softly spoken dialogue. Porn is like a tool. Sensible people can use it and no one ought to lose out. (If it is regulated properly). Nutters will always find anything even vaguely sexual a fuel for their perversions.
The biggest mistake that we make with porn is that we exhibit it on top shelves in shops, as if it were the same type of material as sailing magazines or home improvement magazines. It is not and can have an unecessarily intimidating effect upon women and potentially children. This ought to change.

First off, both men and women find porn arousing. Granted, lots of women and some men don't, but this definitely isn't solely a male proclivity. I'm a woman, and I watch porn on a frequent and regular basis- it turns me on to see sexual things, which makes me like everybody else on this planet.

Pretty much everybody in the world, that I know of, at least, enjoys erotic material in some way or another. For one woman, she might get a little flushed and breathless at the hot love scene in her favorite soap opera. Some women have the "good part" of a romantic novel dog-eared, laying in the drawer by the bed. Some women enjoy softcore video erotica. Some enjoy hardcore porn. Are you starting to see what I'm saying? We all do the fantasizing- it's just to what extent we like a print or visual or audio component to add to it.

You ask this question as if there is something bad about porn, and hence something monstrous in the men who find it a turn-on. But there is nothing about porn that is inherently bad. People who usually make negative claims about it aren't necessarily wrong in their assessments; a lot of the time, they're right. In the majority of male-produced, male-oriented heterosexual porn, women are objectified, degraded, the beauty of sex is demeaned, and many times, porn stars are victims of pyschological problems, drug addiction, STD's, and other problems. I completely agree that the business is riddled with problems, both internally in what happens, and externally in how it shapes our view of sex and how to treat it and women, as a society.

But at the same time, none of those things are inherent in porn, and I say that because there is a small but growing niche of porn that is completely the opposite. There are porn stars who are happy and successful and have no problems with what they do. There are so many videos out there that have actually helped to save marriages and relationships (you never hear about that, though, do you?- it's always "his porn addiction ruined our marriage!") with educational instructions or just bringing couples closer together and opening up discussion on sex and their desires. There is porn that portrays real female sexuality and treats women as equal partners in a beautiful, sacred act. I just want to be able to hand out copies of any of Tony Comstock's documentary films (http://www.comstockfilms.com/ to anybody who says that porn is always degrading or disgusting or whatever, because his work is so amazingly sex-positive and beautiful- it is a complete antithesis to most of the stuff you see out there today.

Anyhow, I hope that helps you better understand a little bit.

Why are you singling out men?

Anyone who can't find porn a turn on has some serious hang-ups to deal with.

actually, both kinds of gender can like porn. but to answer your question, men find porn a turn on because when they see the lusty bodies of the pornstars, they get horny because they feel like they want to have sex.

Men get excited/aroused over visual stimulation. That's pretty much all there is to it. If you are into reading, the book Wild at Heart, does a pretty good job at explaining Men.

I am not in the least bit voyeuristic. I have watched live sex shows in Hamburg, Amsterdam and Bangkok. I have also watched parts of many pornographic films. They leave me absolutely cold as they do with a lot of men. I don't think I have watched more than a few minutes in one go. If I am not included in the action I can't be bothered wasting my time watching somebody else doing it for money.

Lots of people find it a turn on, both men and women. It's the ideas of doing what you're watching with your partner that turns you on :-)

Men are easily visually stimulated.....not exactly rocket science you know.

I see nothing wrong with watching porn unless of course you are addicted to it
