I am debating on baby names right now. I like old fashioned names like Emily and Katherine (Katie) for a girl and Matthew and Shawn for a boy. But I am also interested in newer names, like Hayden (boy) and Piper (girl). Should I go for newer or older names? And any ideas on names of that kind would be appriciated! Thanks!

I'd mix old-fashioned and new names to create unique combinations. Like Shawn Hayden or Hayden Shawn, Katherine Piper or Piper Katherine.

I like both old-fashioned and new names. I have two daughters with somewhat old-fashioned names, Amelia Grace and Emma Katherine. I have two daughters with newer names, Ryleigh Jade and Rowan Sage. My sons' names are kind of a mixture...Dylan James, Jaden Ian Derek, and Avery Christian.

Maybe you could combine the older names with the news names. I kind of think that boys names should be solid and kind of timeless like Shawn, thats a wonderful name.. Shawn Hayden sounds great! I like newer names for girls, Emily and Kathrine have been very over used, I like Elizabeth, Rose, Lily, Timeless sort of names...

good Luck!

I say use newer names. Everyone has names like Katherine and Shawn. Definitely try to come up with something unique and I do like the name Piper. It's got a ring to it.

I love traditional names myself. I say go for a traditional first name and a modern middle name. Like Shawn Hayden or Katherine Mackenzie.

Or just put a spin on a traditional name by mixing up the spelling. That, however, can be tricky.

I also really like traditional first names for girls that can be shortened to something cute. Like Josephine - Joey, Teresa - Tess, Aurora - Rory

I am a fan of newer names, but nothing too crazy.

What about Piper Katherine and Hayden Matthew. Those sound very nice.

Trendy names are trendy... which means at some point, they will just be out of fashion or strange (think: when was the last time someone named their daughter Jennifer?).

Traditional names have the advantage of being timeless. That adorable baby boy may someday be an 80-year-old grandfather, and he'll appreciate it if you consider that when choosing a name. Who knows... maybe you'll pick such a good name that the family is still using it generations down the road?

My name is Bria. If you like it, I don't care if you use it. It is older fashioned and it means 'brilliant like fire'. My sisters name is Aria. It is a form of opera. My brothers name is Stefan and my even littler brothers name is Caden.

Well, some older fashioned names are Alice, Rosabelle, Cecile, Danielle, Bethany, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Amelia, Lily, Alexandra, and Genevieve. Some NEWER girl names are Aimee, Blaise, Emylee or Emilie (if you want different spelling) Amberlyn, Bailee, Kadence, Lyric, Nickole, Safire, Necia, Brynn, Hannah, and Zola.

For boys some OLDER names are Cedrick, Mark, Anthony, Vicktor, Damian, Pierce, Theodor, Adam, Jonathan, Benjamin, Daniel, Elijah, Jonah, and Luke. NEWER ones are Forrest, Tristan, Blake, Eagle, Londen, River, Westin, Jason, Phoenix, Halen, Bale, Brendan, Caden, Bryce, Trevor, Gavyn, Asher, Ellis, Jakob (newer spelling), Jared, and Kaniel.

I think maybe you should combine them. Use a traditional name for a first name, then a newer one for the middle.
Kathryn (my favorite spelling) Piper
Emily Piper
and
Matthew Hayden or Shawn Hayden would be nice.
