I feel for you as well. Sometimes things happen that are beyond your control. If the machine was bumped while it is in play, it may take the disk off it's track and spin akwardly. Things just happen.
If you can only see the crack by looking at the top (where the picture and title is) then that disk is ruined.

The CD holds all the information just under the title layer. The bottom is actually thick plastic type material to protect said information. (Take a disk and look at it's edge and angle it so you can see through the plastic.. you will see there isn't anything until you reach that bottom surface). Any scratches on the top will permenantly damage your disk. Even taking it to EB games for repair will most likely not work.

You will have to buy a new copy of the game (since you wouldnt be under any type of warranty... and no gaming company would replace your disk because they feel bad for you). Wear and tear, my friend. Good luck with that!

Xbox 360's have a serious heating issue. If there's a crack it won't get fixed by cleaning solutions.
Though you said it's on the front of the disc, does that mean on the face? If so it shouldn't really matter.
Have you kept Gears of War up to date via Live updates?

I feel for you. I take care of my halo disc like a baby. Sometimes it can get hot and crack. Either exchange it, return it or send it to the company. Or buy a new disc. your memory is still saved though

If it is anyway cracked I suggest you get a new one because once it is cracked it cannot be used anymore. I REPEAT IT ISN'T FIXABLE. I guess you can try calling the company and tell them what happened. They might send you a new copy.
