A group of friends and I had a discussion this weekend about how history is often written by the winners of war. I am more interested in learning about personal historical accounts which often change my view of "textbook" history. Do you think that with enough research, books, movies, etc... history can be redefined in the minds of people today?

of course. look at the vietnam war. it was defined by the liberals of that day and continues to be even today, since most profs with tenure were educated during the 60s and early 70s. notice how they never mentioned what happened after the US pulled out of vietnam. nobody talks about the reeducation camps and the lives lost by the communist government. it isn't just selective memory, they hide these facts from the public on purpose. when liberals control all the information, they can make you think any way they want.

It is being done in that manner.Textbooks are full of half-truths and lies in all nations.Forget movies as a research tool.Look for books by eyewitnesses of an historical event, and crosscheck the data to see if it is factual. There are a few good books in the libraries, but most are hogwash. And very few can be found in bookstores.I'm speaking of contemporary history of the past century.Prior to the 20th century, many works are reputable simply because it is easy to check accounts by historians from diverse cultures that agree with events.Nowadays, one has to find alternative news to truly know what is taking place in the world.Until the internet is shackled,it is the best place to study history, and find accurate historical works.

To some extent yes to others, no. History happened and eventually we'll discover most of the truth regardless of who won the war. On the other hand many people still consider Marconi the inventor of the radio and that Paul Revere was the one making the horse back ride to warn the colonists.

It's already being redefined by the U.S. Democrat Party and various left-wing lunatics. That's why todays children are so stupid.
