The olden days? What you mean a time when the world was a button's push away from nuclear annihilation? or a time when Europe was in it's second war in 30 years? or a time when Berlin was separated by a wall? or a time when the colour of your skin determined where you could and couldn't by milk?
The 'good old days' really weren't that good.

I don't think people have changed that much over the years. We are as prone to being good and loving or bad and nasty as we ever were. What has changed is an individuals ability to SEE what a LARGER number of people are DOING. In the "olden days" people could only know what the few people around them were doing. In this age of instant electronic communication, we have access to video and pictures from all over the world. This makes it seem like there is a lot more going on.
In the olden days you knew that Clem killed Jed and that Sam and Susy had their first baby because they all lived in the same town as you. These days we have access to information bout every town in the world.

The majority of them were very innocent and trusting and helpful and selfless and forever giving except for a minority which was naughty and their misdeeds were not highlighted but were whispered at family gatherings.
The scene has changed drastically. Now the majority is naughty and misdeeds are screamed from the rooftops (read, TV and print media) and more and more are following their example. The really nice people are miniscule but whenever I come across such a selfless soul I am moved to tears and am reminded of what I once was.......

people were definitely more naive. They didn't have access to the mass media that we do now. People can learn about and have anything they can imagine now....because of the internet. Innocent....maybe...I don't know. In some ways sure, because they didn't know about all the ways to be bad....but I don't think they were any more morally decent than people are now.

I don't think people were naive at all. In a way I think they know more than we do today about certain things. People have always done "naughty" things.

It was hid better. Here is a link to a book that tells naughty tales from the 1800s. It proves that every joke you heard is real old. This is a scholarly book to, not something pornographic.

Oh for sure there were probably more naughty people as it took longer to get the police into operation! You watch those old 1900 movies and they weren't that innocent!

Watch some movies about older time periods and you'll notice that people are as they always have been. It's just that nowadays, a lot less is taboo. We have always been human and therefore have always been guilty of naughty things.

Not naive as much as restrained because they were members of a smaller and close knitted society. So, knowledge of and punishment for crimes was swifter. Consider that the punishment for offenses we consider minor today was quite severe...

I think it's probably been the same - just less televised. People didn't read about it in the news. But also, violence has made a big splash, no thanks to the ease of buying firearms and parents keeping them around the house. So really, my answer is both yes and no.
