We celebrate many holidays that come from other cultures. I think it is because we have such a diverse poplulation, and it seems that we all adopt eachother's holidays and adapt them to fit in our society. At least the one's that are fun.
Also, Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independance day -it is a victory in a battle in that mexico won that is celebrated in many places.

No, Mexico does no longer have fun July 4th. They fairly have fun September sixteen, Mexico's independence day. Cinco de Mayo is definitely a social gathering for the defeat of the French on the conflict of Puebla.

I'm sure no other country celebrates the 4th of July as that is THIS country's independence day. However, I'm sure they have their own independence day in many cases. Not sure why we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Probably just another reason to party.

Cinco de Mayo is not an independence day celebration for Mexico. It celebrates a not-very important battle in which the Mexicans defeated the French.

In the US it is an opportunity to get Marguerita specials and cheap Tex-Mex specials. It has no political purpose.

Americans will celebrate anything if it involes alcohol or getting the day off of work.

Cinco de Mayo is just an excuse to get plastered (I did not celebrate it, as it is not an American holiday).

the USA doesn't celebrate Cinco de Mayo.... some people here will latch on to any reason to eat and drink and party

Most people use it as a reason to drink and party. If the Mexicans were that favorable of it why don't they go back to Mexico to celebrate it.

Ha ha ha...i never thought about that. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there are alot of Hispanics that live in the US. I think LA's population is like 95% hispanic, so that may be a reason....I dunno
