The rule of tumb is to always wait unitl after mother's day. That depends on where you live. But I think it is for all states that have 4 seasons. If you live in the mountains, you will need to wait a few more weeks. It also depends on what you are planting. There are many flowers that you can plant now that will withstand a freeze, summer bulbs, pansy, lilies, Trees...if you are planting veggies, wait another week or two

Well Martin L. I haven't laughed like that all day. What a fabulous rant. You deserve the best answer for typing that lot.

As for bedding plants I put mine out at the beginning of the week and all seems well so far, in fact they have had a growth spurt.

Hi. If you are in England, I would imagine it would be OK but I personally wouldn't put mine out for a while yet as I am in North of Scotland. Sometimes we have to wait until June. Some of mine are in an unheated greenhouse though. We sometimes get late frosts up here so have fleece over them at the moment at night.

It depends where you are.

I'm in the South East of England and I've put lots out in pots and I would think it's almost time to put some in the ground.

It depends on where you live. If you are certain that the threat of frost has passed, go ahead.

I always go by my mum's rule of thumb which is put them out as soon as April's out. Always works for me and my mum's garden is always gorgeous!
