He needs to be refused life for the murders and shouldn't be breathing right now.

Wow! That's like asking if Jimmy Stewart was a good actor! He won the Heisman at USC, was the overall number one draft pick in 1969, then went to the NBA to play for Buffalo. He basically was the Bills offense for five years, led the league in rushing four times, and was the first player in history to rush for 2000 yards in a season. And that was during a 14 game season! Member of the pro football Hall of Fame since 1985. Was OJ Simpson a good football player? You tell me!

If the restaraunt owner did not want him there then the owner should be able to refuse service. Technically, OJ was never convicted of murder, even civilly. The civil case was a wrongful death. Losing that just means that OJ contributed to the death, however it does not legally make OJ a murderer. Ain't the law just weird.

The restaurant owners deserve medals for sticking to their morals. If a murderer walked into my establishment, I would like to think I'd do the same thing. He needs to be wearing a giant A on his chest like the Scarlet Letter and everyone should refuse service.

well, while I agree that he should have been convicted, he really was never convicted of murder... Johnny Cochran, what a genius. Anyway. A civil conviction as you call it, is legally known as for being "Liable" which means that they feel he was responsible for the deaths whether he committed them or not. Unfortunately, do to what it means to be acquitted, O.J. Simpson can (as he basically does in his new book) say now that he got away with murder. He DID kill Nicole and Ron. but he was never Convicted.

Most private retail or service outlets (which a restaurant
is) maintain a policy of being able to deny service to
anyone.

So, legally, he's in the clear.

Ethically - I'm not so sure. He has been found
innocent in a court of law. Even though I am extremely
suspicious of that decision, I would feel duty bound to
adhere to it. The civil court decision is meaningless here.

Imagine if everyone started chosing to serve clients
on the basis of innocence or guilt in the STOREKEEPERS
mind.

"You just look guilty of something. Be gone."

Slippery slope.

It's the right of the owner/manager to refuse service.

I would probably have went ahead and served them, but I don't hold it against Mr Ruby, it was his call.

There are lots of killers walking the streets free, in fact a good example would be Mel Ignatow, who is also in Louisville KY, and likely refused service sometimes. But you don't hear about it because he is not a celeb.

I just heard about this. Three big cheers to that restaurant owner. O.J. Simpson got away with murder and everyone knows it yet he;s a free man. Now that his two children are older I wonder what they think of dear old dad.

I would not eat in a restaurant that served OJ Simpson. Simple as that!

Andy,

I don't believe that this former celebrity should be treated in this manner - tar and some colorful feathers would have been more appropriate. And a rail on which to run him out of town. Poor OJ.

I think the owner has a right to refuse service to whomever he wants. And, personally, I would have left the restaurant if OJ was there.

No shoes, no shirt, NO CLASS, no service!
