Yes, it's possible to be born with one ovary, or one lung, kidney or pretty much any organ that comes in pairs.

My sister was born with one ovary, as well as having only one kidney.
She ended up needing a hysterectomy at 13 due to a tumor in her uterus so she was never able to have kids. But the Drs did several tests and determined that her one ovary was functioning.

I don't know how common it is, but it certainly happens. my cousin was born with one ovary. It may cut a person's chance for pregnancy in half, as i believe that you would probably have a period every other month.

On that, i'm not sure. My cousin's ovary that was present when she was born was non functioning. She received hormones to balance her system. i tried Webmd.com for answers but couldn't find anything definite about fertility, etc.

Any gynecologist would know.
