If you are talking part of the country the South remained loyal to the Democrats except Tennessee with Harding and only part of the South and Massachusetts and Rhode Island supported the Catholic Democratic candidate Al Smith against Hoover. All the Southern states voted for Davis against Coolidge in 1924.

The South was solidly Democrat till the Democrats embraced civil rights in the 60s.
I remember good ol' boys in the 60s saying 'Mah gran'pa would tahn in his grrave If Ah ever voted Republican - but Am gonna vote Republican this time...'
