Oil changes are an important, and mostly overlooked, part of your vehicles' preventative maintence. Changing your oil on a regular basis helps to prevent premature engine wear. However, if you find yourself in a financial position that makes it difficult at this time to have an oil change done, your vehicle will be O.K. Although you should not make a habit of skipping oil changes, delaying it for awhile will not damage your car. I would suggest that you have the oil level checked whenever you buy fuel. It is also important to maintain the correct oil level in your car. If you're not sure how to do this, just ask at the gas station. Someone there should be able to show you the correct oil level and advise on the amount to add to keep your car topped up. But it is very important not to overfill your oil. Keep that in mind. Keep an eye on your local papers and flyers. Sometime garages will offer coupons or specials for oil changes for as little as $25.00. Good Luck!

in three days, it probably wont be much worse than it is now. but the companies that make these cars put these intervals for a reason. they know the engine, and they've decided that the perfect balance between longer engine life and cost for oil is at 3500 miles for you car. the engine oil doesn't provide as much needed protection after the specific mileage indicated. And, another function of todays oil is to actively clean the engine. that means that your oil is contaminated at this point. So it will most likely make it, it's made it this long, just check the level and add as necessary. Also, someone else mentioned something about you being fine if it's highway miles. while it is true that an engine will last longer if it has all highway miles than if it has all city, the oil still breaks down just as quickly. the reason engines l;ast longer is the reduced pressures on the bearings. the oil is still taking a beating one way or another.

Speaking from experience... you blow your engine. The rods break. And bascially you get stuck buying a new engine.
Although when it happened to me, I was lucky & my rods only cracked. The mechanic told me about a lady who was injured when her rod broke & was launched threw her car, piercing her arm.
If anything, change the oil yourself. It will be about 14 bucks & it's really simple. If you go to the auto parts store, you can buy a new filter ($5), an oil pan ($4) & some oil ($5)... the people working in there will usually even show or tell you how to do it.

The purpose of oil is to lubricate the moving parts in the engine. If you dont get the oil change there will be less effective lubrication causing friction that leads to overheating and possible permanent engine damage. That's a very big bill to pay. Get an oil change as soon as possible ;)

NOOOO! The oil begins to breakdown causing sludge and doesn't protect the engine bearings, ect...
Tell me, do you want to pay $25 for oil change or $3,000 for a new engine! Oil changes are the most important service performed on your vehicles!

It depends on the type of driving you do. stop and go driving and short trips are harder on a car than long trips. while 3k miles is common, many owners' manuals on newer cars recommend up to 6500 or 7000 miles unless you are under severe conditions) if the car is newer/less miles than it might be ok, you could always do it yourself too. the cheapest place to get an oil change is wal-mart and ask for the cheapest oil----their brand of oil is made by either quaker state or schaffer (sp?) i have 250k on my honda and have let it go before.

You shouldn't hurt it to badly waiting a month, but not having your oil changed at all will lead to lower compression, less power, eventually your oil will burn away, and your engine will cease up, major mula to replace.

Has the oil light come on. If your car is in need of oil then you will start to hear knocking and it could eventually cause your motor to lock.
