I'm only asking this because my friends and I would love to investigate around where we live, but we can't seem to find any stories about haunted places or things like that where we live!! >_>'' So this would be a great help to us.

every town has a graveyard near it or an old no longer in use church. go to one of them at night, seems to work the best for me. bring a camera and take pic and see if anything appears that was not there when you took it.

Many investigators use night vision cameras, electrical field detectors and even Geiger counters.
I have no idea why ghosts would manifest themselves with or without radioactivity; or in some specialized part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Or why they should be recorded on tape by not heard. But this is the methods used.
I did see this on a Discovery Channel documentary. called "Ghost Hunters".

Go to the library and look for a movie called 'Casper'. It came out in 1995. They may have other movies featuring ghosts as well. Otherwise I don't think you will find anything, since there is no evidence outside of those 'unsolved mystery' shows that there are any ghosts.

Question is why do you want to find them? spirits are not toys
if you call them to you, you must also return them, this requires someone who knows what they are doing, think about it like this you were in a long restfull sleep in a comfortable warm bed then someone decided to yank you out, wouldn't you like to know there was a good reason for it?

the best way to look for ghosts is at night, with a camera, video camera, and a digital voice recorder.

look for old abandoned areas like hospitals as that's where there are the most entities that have not yet wanted to leave this world
