If you avoid special events, large conventions and weekends you will save a lot of money on your hotel. I have always found that I can save money by booking my air and hotel separate.

There are some very good deals right now for hotels, most of these promotions run through the summer.

Try to get a package for sure, like at expedia or hot wire; usually buying air & hotel together - you get discounts. But also get a hotel off the strip, but by a couple of blocks. I used to live in vegas, but moved away sadly about a year ago, there is a hotel on tropicana, but I can't remember the name. But if you go off the strip food & hotel go down in price a lot - even when you are just a block or two away.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking.

If you are asking what the cheapest way to "go" to vegas then I would say that I usually buy my plane ticket and hotel seperately because it is usually cheaper and I have more flexabilty with changing/cancelling hotel reservations. Once you prepay your room on expedia or hotwire, you are pretty much stuck with that hotel.

The first thing that you should do is decide what properties you are interested in staying in and then go to thier website and join thier email list. This site will give you a breakdown of the different hotels (www.cheapovegas.com). Give it a couple of days and you should start receiving email offers. (If you don't want to give out your email address, then I would create a new free one and use that for this purpose.) You can also keep an eye on the following websites for the latest deals and specials http://www.fatwallet.com/t/63/704925/ and http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13.

One tip that I will give you is if you are going to gamble at all then sign up for all of the player's cards at the different casinos that you go to. (Alot of the bigger casinos are owned by two companies, Harrah's and MGM, so once you get a card from one casino you can use it all of thier respective properties). By doing this you can earn free meals, rooms, cash and future discount offers.

Because of the big influx of new properties being built, Vegas isn't as cheap as it used to be, but it's still a lot cheaper than staying in comperable hotels in other cities. There are still good deals out there, but they really aren't as good as they were a year ago.

If you are asking what the cheapest way to "survive" in Vegas then I would tell you that there are a number of different free experiences and attractions. You can get a list of free things to do on a number of different sites but these are the ones that I tend to use most: http://www.vegas.com/ most http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/activities.cfm

Another thing that you should be aware of is that there are a few half price ticket places around the strip. I never buy show tickets in advance unless I want to see a Cirq show, I just visit one of these stores the day that I want to go see a show and see what they have. You can get some pretty good deals on shows and attractions.

As far as eating, the bigger buffets tend to run on the expensive side ($25 and up for dinner), but there are still a number of different places you can eat cheaply. The $2 beer and hotdog specials are still out there and so is the $13.99 dinner buffet, you just have to look for them. Here is a list of all of the vegas buffets: http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/buffets.cfm

Another thing that you might want to do is to buy the American Casino Guide which has 30 or so pages of coupons in the back of the book. They include everything from car rental discounts, 2 for 1 buffet and show ticket coupons. I also believe that there is a coupon or two for free/discounted downtown hotel room.
