I have really swollen ankles, is this normal at this stage of pregnancy? I work part time, but I'm not on my feet that much, maybe 2 hours a day. My feet and ankles are really sore and itchy too, did anyone else experience this?

I have low blood pressure, I live in Greece and access to my Doctor isn't that easy. I will have to call him tomorrow, but he gives rubbish advice (told me I didn't need folic acid!) that's why I ask a lot of questions on here.

There are two gynaecologists on the island where I live, mine is the better one! I don't have a mother to advise me and my mother in law is of the school of thought that I'm moaning about everything!!! I have tried looking for midwifery advice online, but they are all for Uk only, can anyone reccommend one?

I am a retired nurse. I don't believe the thinking about this has changed. I feel you have a problem which may be compounded by a poor doctor. Of Course you need folic acid. So, since you are 17 weeks, you have time to find another doctor. But don't delay as the swollen ankles could be a sign of pre-eclampsia. The low blood pressure does not fit into that scenario, though. So you have a confusing situation. Get a referral to a good doctor and call and ask them what they think. If you have to, go in for a consultation (second opinion) If you then decide to keep your current doctor, so be it. If you were my daughter I would be concerned. Don't risk your health or your baby's. Get professional advice.

I had really bad swollen feet and ankles, but not until later in pregnancy. It can be a sign of toxemia, so I would tell your OB about it right away. Good luck.

Yeah, you're retaining water. Put your feet up as much as you can. Your doctor will have other suggestions as well.
