They are not the same. This is what I think is the difference:

Goths are accursed; emos are persecuted.

Goth people try to be scary because of the evil inside them. This evil can take many forms such as vampirism, extreme psychosis, extreme lust, and so on. Such behavior is usually just an act and it is how some people let others know they feel ugly on the inside.

Emo people don't care much about anything or anyone and they dislike themselves because of it. They might not put it in so many words and instead they put the blame on anyone and anything else for how bad they think their lives are - when, to an unbiased, outside observer, their lives really aren't all that bad.

They are completely different, especially in terms of the musical genres generally associated with each "scene". Emo generally refers to pop-punk like Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, etc. In the goth movement, metal seems to be more popular.

labels are retarded. there is not any goths or emo's, they are the two unanimous labels for youths at present and that they are the two so stretched out and overused that neither have any meaning. each and every and something would nicely be emo, enable's all strengthen up slightly and picture of a few new phrases. to respond to your question.... sure.....

Goths show and express no emotion other than indifference. They generally listen to music that is gloomy and dark.

Emo is the polar opposite. Emo show and express emotions often, usually depression, anger and sadness. They generally listen to pop-punk with emotional lyrics. Singers in of this type usually sing in a whiny voice.

Not according to my son. Goths would tend not to be so emotional, but 'emo's tend to be I guess.
