As you probably know the occurrence of shaking while scared is part of the "fight or flight" response. The fight or flight response is a primitive reaction to stimuli perceived to be dangerous and is intended to prepare the body to respond appropriately to the danger subconsciously. When the response is activate hormones such as adrenaline are released, the blood pressure and respiration increases to prepare the muscles for response. The shaking that occurs is largely a survival mechanism. The legs shake to get the body ready to run while the arms and hands shake in preparation for a potential fight.

It's the central nervous system's response to fear, it has to be a great fear. Normally, the person channels this into a resolution, although in a robbery, etc I think they just wait to survive it, and the shaking starts later.
It's also a release of a warrior type behavior, and it's described in one of Dan Simmons detective books. it releases the "bad" killer karma, and allows the warrior to transform back to his more comfortable personable likable, although well=trained warrior life

It's not psychological, it's physiological.
When afraid, all animals experience a "fight or flight" response that involves a release of massive amounts of hormones, including adreneline, which causes the muscles to go into overdrive preparing to either attack or flee from an enemy.
