There are more closet drunks and pedophiles there than in the city.

All those pedophiles who refuse to register hide in these "quaint little towns" all across the USA.

I have lived in a city for 40 years only know one person who was murdered and he was at the University of Iowa. I have had 2 relatives and 3 friends killed in traffic accidents in the suburbs or small towns. Studies have shown that my experience reflect the reality that suburbs are a more dangerous place to live.

I grew up in the suburbs of South Florida 30 mins from Miami....it was pretty safe there, but dudes there were kinda nutz.....and we didn't have drunks and pedophiles, we had druggies and some gangs

I felt safer and happier living there tho, versus this shiit hole I live in now in Central Florida - this place is cheaper for a reason....once I go through medical school I'll have enough money to move back to Coral Springs

yeah yo

Honestly, I'm not sure. I live in an apartment in an urban area (I'm in college) that everyone knows is not safe. But when I go to visit my extended family, they live in a Dallas, TX suburb where my mom doesn't even lock her back door! Someone could just walk right in! It blows my mind, since I don't even go to my mailbox after dark without my pepper spray. I think people really want to be safe in suburbs, since they often raise kids there, so they believe the illusion. But criminals can be anywhere. I think that perhaps the types of crimes committed in suburbs are diff from those that take place in cities--they're less public, less violent. For instance, you don't see as many drive-by shootings in suburbs. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's plenty of quieter crimes--child abuse, etc. So those neighborhoods appear safer, because no one hears about the crimes that occur. But crime happens everywhere. I grew up in a small, quiet town in a "perfect" neighborhood...and an elderly woman got raped just a block or two away from my house. Plus, a closet drug dealer lived just across the street. Granted, he was a very nice guy... =)

Have you ever noticed how few police sirens you hear in suburbs, as compared to in urban areas? I've lived in an urban area for 4 years now, and I'm just now getting used to it after growing up in a town of 25,000.

Interesting point, btw!

As a black man here's a true story. I once lived in a black neighborhood in a suburb of Atlanta. I was on my way to return a blockbuster video and I had to go up to my apt. to get something. It was only for a minute so I left my doors unlocked, when I came back someone had gone inside my car and stolen the video off the front seat.

I will Never Never Ever Ever Ever live in the hood. That's not racist, that's just the way it is.

I live in the suburbs, used to live in the city.

There are no drug dealers or hookers on my street corner. I have left my door unlocked while gone. I can come home and park my car with the windows rolled down and the doors unlocked and guess what, everything is just how I left it, hours ago or even overnight. My children can walk anywhere they want wearing any color/ type of clothing they want, and come home just as they left. There are no drive bys on my street.

Yes, bad things do happen here too. But no where near as much as we dealt with in the city.

I don't know how provable you stats are but what makes you think everyone in the burbs think they're safe? My little burg is about 55 miles from Chicago. I am retired from the local police department and I still carry a gun. Too bad all legal gun owners cant......yet.

Crime stats are pretty close to the same per capita. Less people in the burbs, less cases but still about the same per capita rate.

crimes in the burbs are not all in your face like the city. alot of people like it like that so they can pretend it does not exist
